Wednesday Wish (33)

Sunshine
'Sunshine' by Jong Soo (Peter) Lee via Flickr
Today I met a little girl. And even though her wings were tucked inside her sweater I saw the angel in her eyes. Didn’t matter that she was little. Didn’t matter that she was even tiny. She was elegant, as elegant as a deer treading lightly in the dark. I watched as her weight barely reached her feet, as her fingers swam gently thru the air, as her voice came out in swirls, intoxicating even those who thought their ears had hardened closed long ago. This little girl formed from a single puff of summer cloud, touched my heart. And I heard her story on the phone.

Lily’s parents are friends of friends and they live in Seattle. They dote. And dote. And dote. On their little girl. Why? Because she is different and different sometimes brings that out in us. Especially when it comes to our children. And especially when it comes to Lily, an angel in disguise. Or maybe she isn’t in much of a disguise after all.

Lily went to the hospital for many months. And often. She had test after test done to try to figure out why she wasn’t growing like other kids her age. Then one day, summer arrived.

So Lily grew.
And grew.
And grew.
And almost as much as her classmates had the entire year.

But before too long, the colder days begged to return en masse, and the sun had no choice but to hide its face, until one day, like a heavy cloak, winter had returned.

So Lily stopped growing.
Not another smidgen
Or even a fraction of a millimeter
For the entire winter.

"So what did they decide?" I asked into the phone from my Mexican sunshine home.
"Decide? They learned," my friend said back to me. "They learned that Lily's growing season is summertime and summertime alone."
"I'm making up the guest room now..."

My Wednesday Wish for You?

To answer these questions for yourself and to share those that want to be set free:

What nourishes you?
What fans your embers and fuels your fires?
When is your growing season?
Are you blinking away the questions?
Or are you inviting them to visit your depths, to flicker their light in the darkest corners of your cave?
Can you honor your Self? More.
Can you feed your spirit’s hungers? More.
Can you be who you came to earth to be, not tomorrow or next week or when you lose that weight or get that job, but today? Today.

*          *          *

Yes, you can see yourSelf. And yes, you can honor yourSelf. But you must begin. Both. Before you can truly grow. Into the beautiful blossom you were always meant to be.

Wonderful tale, and I am pondering the questions, too. Hmmm...

What a perfect time to grow...with the sun...then every part of you would be filled with light...no wonder she is an angel

I think Lily and I are twins, we're both solar powered, thriving in the sun. :-)

What nourishes you?
Sunlight, laughter, friends, books, cats

When is your growing season?
Summer! I blossom in the warmth of its golden light

Can you be who you came to earth to be, not tomorrow or next week or when you lose that weight or get that job, but today? Today.
I accomplished what I came into this world to do, many years ago. Now, my life is my own, unscripted. I can seek beauty, enjoy magic and wonder, experience life with no agenda other than to breath it in, and breath it out, sharing joy for its own sake, and meeting the people who bring me happiness.

Thats what I thought too, Jo. I was sad to hear that her parents weren't moving her to a sunnier place though. Seattle is pretty darn grey for many months of the year. I told my friend to tell them to come down here! I'd love to nourish the angel in her...and I know the Mexican sun would too!:)

I hope she gets all the sunshine she needs! I always try to store up as much sun as I can in the summer, to last me through the winter...

I think you may be right about being twins...except you got to move to the sun...Lily's parents aren't taking her out of Seattle:( Maybe we oughta con them into letting her visit us...shall we ask?? First stop you, then you bring her down here to me? This winter?:)

I love reading the things that nourish you, John. Secret...I already knew:)

You might be surprised with what you came here to earth to do...maybe you've done some, but maybe not all....truthfully, I am not convinced that there isn't some other grand plan working thru you, my friend.:) Your blog for one...touches and opens many hearts and I am sure you do that even more in person.

Thank you for your big juicy comments...I loved them!!:)

I know what you mean, Deniz...I used to do the same thing and thought the same thing for Lily, too!! I wish we could all love on her with sunshine costumes on:) Hugs, sweet friend!

Ahh, my friend, you see the way of things. Bring Lily down here, and I will nourish her in bright sunshine and admiration, before bringing her down to your warm garden.

That which brought me here is truly done, but you speak of different things it seems. That which I brought myself into this life to do, I have done. I did it for me, it needed doing, and now, I put that test behind me.

What you speak of sweet dove, is what I may do for others. That will never be finished, and will ever be a joy in my life. I have helped myself, and now, I am free to help others. I am forged through the fire of pain and heartache, though there has been no loss, only gain.

The wounds received in this life have been transmuted, becoming armor as well as shield, protecting those in need of succor, bringing sweet fruit to those who thirst and hunger.

Do I have tasks ahead of me, certainly. Though 'my' task is done, the rewards I reap from helping others is manna from heaven, and cherished always. I could not help, had I not helped myself, for a house is only as strong as the beams that support it. You will always, be my support.

Your words, John, are felt. That tells me they come from your heart and deepest Self. Thank you for your gifts of kindness, compassion and love, my friend. They are treasured.

What a magical story! I love that this little girl's body just knew what to do and when to do it. She is certainly here for a very special reason. What a gift that you get to know her (and maybe have her as a guest).

Happy you liked it, Kario! And who knows if I will get to meet her...I hope so! We will be closer to her soon so at least my odds are rising:) Hugs from afar, Kario!
